Hi, I’m Tim Wuebker
I’m an amateur novelist who works on my craft every day for at least an hour. A librarian’s kid and a lifelong reader, I’ve also taught about 4,000 students at UMKC, Marquette University, Rockhurst University, a public high school, and private high school.
I wrote my first story at age five, in first grade. It was a ripoff of a TV show. Since then, while I’ve completed several books, I’ve never worked too hard at publishing them. That’s changing, but before I tell you about any of that, I’d like to discuss what sheer dedication can do for you, me, and anyone.
Since September 2017, sheer dedication has helped Tim complete four novels (75K, 75K, 140K, and 50K words each). These novels are very different from each other. Because I’m busy teaching, lifting weights, doing hot yoga, reading books, and because I have friends and family, I’ve learned that if you want to write, you need to learn from the best. And having learned about the work habits of literally hundreds of writers, including some who are world-class classic authors, I’ve hit upon a few strategies that work for me. They include:
- Write every morning;
- Make your brain sharp by getting enough sleep, lifting weights, and aiming for optimal fitness;
- Surround yourself with creative geniuses;
- Read widely.
But enough about strategies. Because what I care about the most is trying to understand individuals, society, and history, that makes me interested in practically everything. Because isn't this one of the reasons why we read? So we can truly understand people and life?
